Services > Duct Leakage Testing

Duct Air Leakage Testing (DALT) measures leakage in ducts. In construction specifications, engineers require duct leakage testing to ensure proper duct construction and minimize leakage. Leakage in air conditioning and heating system is a major source of energy loss in buildings.

Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors National Association (SMACNA) provides the basic testing method and pass / fail criteria. There are additional industry standards and codes that only vary slightly in the pass/fail criteria and other minor variations.

The basic testing involves capping a duct section and connecting a high static fan. Our fan can provide up to 20” inch static pressure, however the typical duct leakage testing is usually tested at 1”, 2” or 4” static pressure based on pressure classes of ducts.
